Questions parents ask
Is Tappy Keys really free?
Yes. Tappy Keys is free to play, with no ads, no sign-up and no in-game purchases.
What age is Tappy Keys for?
Kids ages 5 to 13. Lessons adjust to your child's age: younger kids get shorter lines, bigger letters and slower games, while older kids get speed goals to aim for. A quick placement test lets kids who can already type skip ahead.
Does my child need an account?
No. Kids just type their first name and start playing. Progress is saved in the web browser on your device, so there is no email or password to remember.
How long does it take to learn to type?
Every child is different. Short sessions of 10 to 15 minutes a few times a week work best. Many kids get comfortable with the home row within the first couple of weeks, and the 15 levels take them all the way to typing full sentences with capital letters, numbers and punctuation.
Does it work on a Chromebook or iPad?
Yes. Tappy Keys runs in any up-to-date web browser on Chromebooks, Windows computers, Macs and tablets, with nothing to install. A real keyboard is best for learning to type, so on an iPad or tablet we recommend connecting one. Kids can also tap the on-screen keys.
Is Tappy Keys safe for kids?
Yes. There are no ads, no chat and no way to contact other players. Kids' names and progress stay on your device and are never sent to us.
